We offer post employment support to assist you in maintaining employment and exploring your own career and personal development opportunities. Discover your career options Career Planning and Assessment Let Goodwill help you discover your strengths and your potential and guide the development of personalized and realistic career plans and goals. We will support you through a process tailored to answer the questions you have about your career options. The result: your interests and abilities are matched with real employment options and you are informed of available resources to gain the skills and experience necessary for a satisfying career path. Career Exploration Goodwill can help you explore new horizons in the current job market. You can use our career resources to explore job clusters, job requirements, and emerging fields of local employment. You can compare your qualifications to those required by local employers to determine what training or educational opportunities will give you an edge with employers. Benefits Assessment If you receive public assistance, you may be concerned about how income from work will affect your benefits. Specially trained Goodwill staff can help you make informed choices about work by developing a profile of your current sources of income and assessing the impact other income may have. We can guide you to other resources to assist in bridging financial gaps while you pursue your career goals. Develop your skills Transitional Employment and Work Experience Let Goodwill help you transition to competitive employment. Our programs include paid on-the-job training in a variety of industry based settings so you can become familiar with the requirements and expectations associated with employment, build your work stamina, identify and use community resources to support employment, and receive guidance in a structured and supportive environment. Whether through internships, temporary placements or volunteer assignments, you can gain valuable experience while you explore areas of potential interest to narrow the focus of your career and personal development. Employability Development Training Need help in learning and juggling the demands of work? Goodwill can help you develop and polish the interpersonal skills and behaviors you will need on the job, manage personal matters and challenges to achieve balance between your home life and work life, and discover strategies to advance in your career. This program combines curriculum based training and peer support coupled with work experience and short-term case management services in order to facilitate linkages to transportation, childcare, money management, health related services and other necessary resources to successfully gain and maintain employment. Job Readiness Training Learn how to make a positive impression with potential employers to gain the job you want. Job readiness training helps you write your resume, fill out applications, and build your interview skills to market your capabilities to employers. You can join groups specially convened for job seekers like you and benefit from guidance from our experienced staff. Find the job you want Job Search Resources If you are seeking employment, we have a broad array of job search tools and resources to link you with local employers. We can help you to discover the “hidden job market,” build your peer network, and develop job leads. Our Resource Centers offer access to computers, fax machines and phones to conduct job searches, create customized resumes and fill out applications. You can create your cover letters, thank you letters to employers and various other job-related documents to help you gain access to job opportunities. You will have access to reference materials and on line linkages to job banks, with staff available to assist you as needed. Job Development and Placement Come to Goodwill for assistance with finding a job in your community. Our Job Placement program helps with you secure employment that matches your skills and interests. Goodwill’s well established relationships with the business community can provide you with introductions to the employers and job opportunities you want. For job seekers with special needs or accommodations, Goodwill’s trained staff can help identify and develop employment opportunities that can be customized to individual circumstances while still meeting the business needs of the employer. Build a Career Post-Employment Support Goodwill staff maintain contact with you after your job placement and offer a variety of services in order to support you to maintain employment or advance in your career. These individualized services are provided while you are employed in the community, both on the job and around your work schedule. Job Coaching services are designed to help you acclimate to and stabilize in your new work setting. Hands on training and employer consultation ensure you learn and perform the duties of your job successfully. Job retention services help you adapt to challenges you may encounter in your first few months of employment. HGI staff can help you plan a budget, schedule and secure reliable transportation and child care, and manage your personal issues to maintain your focus on achievement of your career goals. Benefits Counseling Making a career change of any kind can be a challenge. Making the choice to work instead of receiving public assistance can be particularly tricky. HGI can help make that transition a little smoother. We offer benefits counseling as a means to gain understanding of the process of coming off of public assistance, while helping refer candidates to support services throughout their communities. Experienced staff can assist you to access, manage and leverage your benefits, including Social Security Disability, SSI, TANF/welfare, Food Stamps, benefits to Veterans, educational assistance and student loans, and housing or rental assistance. Programs Designed for Special Populations Parent Employment Program The Parent Employment Program, added to the HGI menu of services in 1994, assists parents in achieving sustainable employment and, in turn, improves your capabilities as providers and role models for your children. PEP is designed to serve both custodial and non-custodial parents, strengthening families as parents learn to take responsibility for the welfare of themselves and of their children. Developmental and Pre-Vocational Programs For persons with developmental disabilities, Goodwill is the place where you can find specially designed programs to facilitate integration into your community and prepare you for employment. Including training to build your daily living skills, services to monitor and maintain your health, and support to develop functional skills in supported work and community settings, developmental and pre-vocational programs promote your ability to fully participate in community activities. Supported Employment Also designed for persons with developmental disabilities, our Supported Employment Program offers job development, placement and follow-along support to individuals who want to work in community settings. An HGI Employment Specialist helps you identify and develop appropriate job leads and secure employment and then implements an individualized plan to promote success on the job, development of new skills and coordination with other activities and services. Typical program components include job analysis, task analysis, accommodations consultations, hands-on support and training, and long term follow along support to help you maintain your job and build your independence.
